To celebrate the passing of 2013 into the new year of 2014, there are a variety of shows happening all around Champaign-Urbana. Plenty of options to choose from (food & drink, included), so stay here in C-U and celebrate. Happy NYE, all.

WHAT: The Duke of Uke and His Novelty Orchestra

WHERE: Esquire Lounge (free)

WHEN: 5 p.m.

Join the Duke of Uke and His Novelty Orchestra for a cover-free New Years Eve celebration at the Esquare in Downtown Champaign. They’ll start playing aroun 5 p.m., and they’ll play for a couple of hours and take a break, then start back up around 9:30 p.m. and play until near-bar closing hours at 1:30 a.m. They’re in for the long haul here. So if you’re into jazz/funk/folk infused tunes, head over there, even if it is for the early show and heading somewhere else afterwards. The night is young.

WHAT: Hank., Doomsayer, Enta, Capys, Woodie, Gnargoyle

WHERE: The Math Lab (free/donations)

WHEN: 7 p.m.

Alright, this one should be pretty wild. Not only are Enta, Capys, Woodie and Gnargoyle throwing down for this show, but there will be a battle set between Hank. and Doomsayer.

The starting time is tentative, according to the Facebook event linked above, but expect for this to start between 7-8 p.m. Some serious amounts of rock ‘n roll for NYE.

WHAT: We The Animals, Bookmobile!, Withershins, Andrew Voris, DJ John Hoeffler

WHERE: Mike ‘N Molly’s ($8)

WHEN: 8 p.m.

A bunch of great local bands are lined up for NYE at Mike ‘N Molly’s on Tuesday night. For starters, they’ll have new-ish outfit We The Animals heading things up with the help of garage punk heroes Bookmobile and space rockers Withershins. Not only that, but local comedian Andrew Voris will be involved in the action as well, and DJ John Hoeffleur will DJ post-bands. All good things for a reasonable price.

WHAT: DJ Delayney, DJ Aron, Larro

WHERE: The Highdive ($20 advance)

WHEN: 8 p.m.

The Highdive will host a couple of things on NYE as well, centered around resident Highdive DJ Delayney spinning for the majority of the night. There will be a comedy showcase featuring Larro as well. Dress to impress, they say on the Facebook page, with “classic attire” of your own version. Should be interesting. In addition to Delayney, DJ Aron will be performing as well as some other unnamed DJs TBD. Stay tuned to the Facebook event for those updated details once they are available.

WHAT: Sun Stereo

WHERE: The Canopy Club ($25 advance/$30 door)

WHEN: 9 p.m.

Jay Goldberg Events & Entertainment are presenting this show at the Canopy Club on Tuesday  night featuring local rock outfit Sun Stereo. For this occasion, Sun Stereo will be performing Here Comes The Sun Stereo, a set featuring music by the Beatles. If you’ve missed the band doing this previously, you should check this out.

The all-inclusive ticket price includes a pizza buffet from Manolo’s from 9-11 p.m., and a hosted bar with complimentary wel liquor, select drafts and champagne when the clock strikes 12 a.m. Tickets are a bit cheaper in advance, so get on that if you’re interested and save a few bucks. WHAT: Kirkwood West, Reed Richard, Epilep[c], Vader, Legtwo, DJ Belly

WHERE: Cowboy Monkey ($10 advance)

WHEN: 9 p.m.

The NYE celebration at Cowboy Monkey will feature a heavyweight bill of local DJs planning on throwing down for a party into the new year. Headlined by DJ Belly and DJ Legtwo, there will also be special sets by Kirkwood West, Reed Richards, Epilep[c] and Vader. HarsH and emcee AMS will be hosting, so that should be even further entertainment for this night.

The doors and music start at 9 p.m., and “early arrival strongly recommended” means this place will fill up with folks pretty quickly. Cowboy isn’t a small space, but it’s not very big either. Get there early, or grab your advance tickets here.

WHAT: Elsinore, Faux Paw

WHERE: Big Grove Tavern ($25 advance/$30 door)

WHEN: 9 p.m.

An interesting combination of venue and performers for this one on Tuesday night. Big Grove Tavern (yes, you’re reading that correctly) will be the venue for local indie rockers Elsinore and their pals from Lafayette, Indiana, Faux Paw. This will be an all-ages show, and tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Tickets include coatcheck, Big Grove popcorn, champagne at midnight, and the show itself. WHAT: DJ Kosmo, Ideal Deejays

WHERE: Soma Ultralounge ($20 advance)

WHEN: 9 p.m.

Soma Ultralounge will be throwing down for NYE as well, featuring Ideal Deejays and DJ Kosmo. For the price of the ticket, you get in the door, but for a VIP experience, you can check the Facebook event for everything you can get with those tables. Obviously, a higher price, but those deals are on the table.

WHAT: Scott Long, Mat Alano-Martin, TBA DJs

WHERE: Jupiter’s at the Crossing ($20)

WHEN: 9 p.m.

For some folks, Jupiter’s at the Crossing might be your ticket for NYE. There will be some music, mostly by DJs, but comedians are also involved in this event. Scott Long and Mat Alano-Martin will perform comedy sets, followed by DJs and dancing. Ticket price includes a champagne toast at midnight (duh) and a pizza buffet. 21+ for this one, sorry, kids.
