The Fights have been playing a lot of alternative/house venues lately, making for some cool, intimate shows. See them at this one, with two other local acts.

Our favorite local jug band has been on a fairly lengthy tour—this show is a chance to properly welcome them back. It’s also a Summer Camp Wednesdays show.

Sunny Louisville garage-punkers White Reaper stop by Mike N Molly’s. It is almost beer garden season, everybody.


WHAT: Santah, Common Loon, Tara Terra, Concord America

WHERE: Cowboy Monkey ($7)

WHEN: Thursday, March 12th, 8:30 p.m.

Although they’re based in Chicago, Santah got their start here in C-U, where they are surely missed. Check them out with three other bands, two locals and a visitor.


WHAT: Crizzly, Antiserum, K Theory

What do you think “crunkstep” might sound like? Correct answers would include a combination of hip-hop and dubstep, and the kind of music Crizzly makes.


WHAT: Evie Ladin and Keith Terry

WHERE: The Upper Bout ($10)

These two folk musicians are also “body percussionists,” making rhythms with nothing but their bodies. They’re playing Krannert for Day of the Drum, but also at The Upper Bout the day before, presented by CU Folk and Roots.


WHAT: Ocean Glass, Lights Over Bridgeport, Call Me in the Morning

Ocean Glass return to Champaign to spread their palatable indie rock to all.


WHAT: Withershins, Typesetter, Motes, Krelboyne

WHERE: Thee DeathTower

WHEN: Friday, March 13th, 9 p.m.

Local shoegaze-space rock band Withershins will fill Thee DeathTower with sound, along with Chicago’s Typesetter and two other locals.


Cowboy Monkey ($7) — Friday, March 13th, 9:30 p.m.

This show, presented by the fine online magazine Smile Politely, is extra special. Not only will Tractor Kings, Mutts and Lanterna be performing, but its also a record release show for Lanterna, local ambient-shoegaze project of Henry Frayne.

Joe Hertler’s search for a rainbow will find him in Urbana playing folk-rock at Canopy Club Friday night.


WHAT: Porkapalooza 2015

WHERE: Big Grove Tavern ($10)

This year’s Porkapalooza at Big Grove features, again, the Polkaholics and is a bacon celebration with a cause: the $10 entry fee benefits The Land Connection.

Two-piece Swearing At Motorists uses minimalism to their advantage, letting talent shine through short rock ditties.


WHAT: Day of the Drum

WHERE: Krannert Performing Arts Center (free)

WHEN: Saturday, March 14th, first performance at 11 a.m.

A wide variety of drummers and other percussionists will take over Krannert on Saturday. See their website for information about all of the performers.

Locals X-Crush throw a St. Patrick’s Day party at Memphis On Main.

Catch C-U country band Feudin’ Hillbilly’s at Fat City.


WHAT: Don’t Ask

WHERE: The Iron Post (cover)

WHEN: Sunday, March 15th, 5 p.m.

So you don’t have to ask—local band Don’t Ask plays klezmer music, which is traditional Eastern European Jewish music.


WHAT: ILoveMakonnen, Frank Leone, Mikey DUBS

WHERE: Foellinger Auditorium ($15 student, $25 public)

WHEN: Sunday, March 15th

ILoveMakonnen gets the club goin’ up on a Tuesday, but Foellinger will be goin’ up on a Sunday when the rapper stops by.
