The Overture: March 23-29

WHAT: The Illinois Mixer featuring Red Moon

WHERE: Canopy Club ($7)

Wait for the bass drop Thursday night at Cowboy Monkey.

Dingbat Dungeon ($5) — Friday, March 27th, 7 p.m.

When local punk group Chain’s Gang broke up last year and then posthumously released a 7” flexi EP that absolutely rips, it was pretty hard to come to terms with the fact that we’d never again hear them rip live. Luckily Chain got parole, and the band is back for a one-off show at the Dungeon on Friday. May Chain’s Gang rip at this show, and R.I.P.

WHAT: The Tasers, Engine Summer, NxT

WHERE: Mike N Molly’s ($7)

WHEN: Friday, March 27th, doors at 9 p.m.

The Tasers play a certain kind of psychedelic prog rock, headlining this show with the more lo-fi Engine Summer and a new local rock band NxT.

WHAT: SugarTree

WHEN: Friday, March 27th, 9:30 p.m.

Hard rock accompanied by strong female lead vocals make SugarTree.

WHAT: Shed Zeppelin, Mike Ingram & Brandon T Washington

WHERE: Cowboy Monkey ($5)

WHEN: Friday, March 27th, 10 p.m.

Can’t go wrong with a Led Zeppelin cover band. Although, their slogan is “Led Zeppelin like you’ve never heard it before,” so who knows what’s coming?

WHAT: Wicked Walls, The Chemicals

Head out to Tolono to catch Wicked Walls and The Chemicals play some gentle shoegaze-rock.

WHERE: Mike N Molly’s ($7)

WHEN: Saturday, March 28th, doors at 9 p.m.

After touring for a week or so, Resinater are bringing it all back home for a record release show. It should be interesting to hear their uncompromising stoner metal paired with the smooth country of the Fights.

Local blues-rock band Upshot bring their talent to Fat City for a Saturday night show.
