Two weeks ago I kicked this thing off with a brief note telling you to check out Sparklehorse due to the untimely death of Mark Linkous. Well, I don’t want to constantly make the beginning of the Overture a downer, but you should definitely check out some Alex Chilton/Big Star too.

Needless to say, this one isn’t for the feint of heart. Admiral of Black claims their band is not about trends, and it’s true of the whole bill. You don’t go to this show to be seen—you go to this show to pummel your ears with the majesty of metal. Really not for standing around.

After celebrating their first anniversary last month, Dubstep is back with another stellar lineup including San Francisco’s Miss Haze. I dare you to try to stand around.

If you have not yet seen Mhondoro live, what the hell are you waiting for? African pop music by an amazingly talented group of local musicians, two of whom were very successful musicians in Africa before they moved here. I think our other music editor is willing to give you $10 if you can stand around.

This group of U of I music students have gotten together to perform standards by a wide range of South American artists. You might actually be able to sit for this one, but your head will definitely bop.
