Monday Night House Party at the Canopy Club continues this week with two local bands lined up. Last year was a good year for Fauve — as they made a splash on our year-end lists with their Light EP and the standout track from it. Check out both bands if you’re interested in this one.

WHAT: Freight Hoppers

WHERE: Channing Murray ($7/$5 students)

WHEN: Wednesday, February 12th at 7 p.m.

A “driving string band” from North Carolina is what they’re dubbed, and they’re performing at the Channing Murray on Wednesday night. They’ve performed at the C-U Folk & Roots Fest before, so they know what they’re in for as they stop through. They’ll be performing a stage show, then breaking into a full-fledged square dance, so be prepared for that if you’re heading to this one Wednesday night.

WHAT: Felix Cartal, Love & Light, Spankalicious, Disflow

WHERE: The Canopy Club ($10)

WHEN: Thursday, February 13th at 9 p.m.

Electro artist Feli Cartal stops through at the Canopy Club with a few others to bring the house down on Thursday night. He recently released a new EP and has a few dates lined up outside of Urbana on the tour schedule.

WHAT: Koffin Kats, The Heavies

WHERE: Cowboy Monkey ($8)

WHEN: Thursday, February 13th at 9 p.m.

Psychobilly punk outfit the Koffin Kats are back in Champaign at Cowboy Monkey on Thursday night. They’re supporting their most recent release, Born of the Motor, and are doing some U.S. dates during this part of their tour. They’re joined by The Heavies for this particular show.

WHAT: Undesirable People, Andrew Palmer, Like… With Jetpacks, Haven

WHERE: Error Records ($5)

WHEN: Saturday, February 15th at 8 p.m.

Michigan indie-punk four piece Undesirable People headline this show at Error Records on Saturday night. They’re in the midst of a short stint of dates, and are joined by a few others for this show.

EDITOR’S PICK: REBECCA REGO & THE TRAINMEN, TIGERBEAT
Cafeteria & Company ($5-10 donation) — Saturday, February 15th at 8 p.m.

Rebecca Rego & The Trainmen are releasing their new album Tolono officially on Saturday night. They’ll be posting this party at the Flying Machine Coffee/Pizza M space in the backroom, and are asking for a $5-10 donation for the musicians. We’ll have a piece for Rego and Tigerbeat, aka John Isberg, later in the week.

WHAT: Yonder Mountain String Band, Travelin’ McCoureys

Bluegrass outfit Yonder Mountain String Band are back in C-U at the Canopy Club this week with the Travelin’ McCourey’s. We’ll have an interview with the band to run later in the week to preview this show.
