Five questions with S.words

Local MC Shannon Swords, who goes by the name S.words when he’s on the mic, has been spreading his precise brand of hip hop all over C-U lateley. His recent gigs have included Record Store Day and last week’s Dubstep/Zmick show. This weekend, he’ll be one of the featured performers at Indie Hop vs. Hip Rock. For a sampling of his work, check out his Mid Skool Mixtape with dj LEGTWO.

Favorite C-U band past or present
My favorite C-U band of all time would have to be Fireflies. I thought that their EP Good Night We’re Only Here to Help was probably one of the freshest breaths of rock music I’ve heard from this area in a long time. I bought the CD twice.

I was also a big fan of the Beauty Shop growing up.

Favorite C-U weatherperson
Judy Fraser, hands down.

Favorite C-U entree, dessert or drink
I’m a big fan of the Turkey Pita they got over at Crane Alley and the Guiness they pour over at the Pig and Mike ‘n Molly’s.

Favorite album of all time (does not have to be from C-U)
My favorite three albums of all time are: Moment of Truth by Gangstarr, ATLiens by Outkast and Hope by Non-Prophets.

Why readers should come see your shows
Readers should come to my show because I put on an live show like no other, complete with ridiculous dance moves, awesome instrumentals and rapid fire lyrical truth. While I’m here to entertain, I’m also here to educate. And I have an excellent hair cut.

S.words will be performing at the Cowboy Monkey this Saturday as part of Indie Hop vs. Hip Rock. with Take Care, Cornbread, DJ Belly and (in a last minute replacement for Sun Stereo) I2K. (10 p.m, $5)
