SP debuts groundbreaking “Internet Calendar”

Always on the bleeding edge of internet technology, the latest invention from the mad scientists at Smile Politely Labs is guaranteed to blow your mind: a local events calendar! We’re so sure that this “internet calendar” is the best thing since soap that we’re rushing to release it before we even have it fully populated with events. Hold on to your hats, good people of Champaign-Urbana, and join the revolution.

This calendar has not one, not two, but three advantages over a paper calendar:

  1. It is much more lightweight.
  2. Internet calendars are free, and there are no intruding gas station or bank logos like on those tawdry free paper calendars (full disclosure: we could not secure a gas station or bank sponsorship for this venture).
  3. And unlike those Fascist paper calendars of your youth, this calendar allows you to submit events yourself. Yes, the future is egalitarian, and it is here.

In fact, why don’t you get right in there and submit a calendar entry right now (Ed. note: Well, not right now… the submission module isn’t working quite yet. Send an email with the event information to info <at> smilepolitely <dot> com and we’ll post your event posthaste, and we’ll let you know when the submission module is working).

All you need to do is click on that clearly-marked “Submit an Event” button on the upper right-hand corner of the Events page. No Smile Politely user account, you say? Why, Rube, that simply will not do. Fortunately, signing up for an account is 100% free and we will never sell your information. In fact, even if we wanted to, we wouldn’t know how to go about selling it. That’s an indication of how focused we are on Improving Your Life.

In all seriousness, we’re really excited to have a calendar, but it’s going to take input from our readers to make it accurate and useful. Everything isn’t going to work perfectly right off the bat, so we appreciate your patience, but we’re looking forward to getting the kinks smoothed out and fielding complaints about inaccurate start times, wrong dates, etc. Cheers!
