Vote (or don’t)

It’s election day in C-U. If you need this or some sort of Facebook announcement to be reminded, then so be it. The world is the world.

I’m not going to suggest to you that voting for a pool is as important as voting for mayor, though it may have more direct impact on a lot of people’s lives. But there are other reasons to vote besides a pool in Urbana.

On behalf of all the editors, thanks to everyone out there who has followed our (Joel’s) election coverage over the last couple of months. This site surely got people talking, not the least of whom is Champaign’s current mayor who, in an interview yesterday, referred to our April Fool’s Day ad. He explained that he does not like the internet (around 5:00 minutes) with all of the bloggers that “don’t believe in what the truth is.* Frankly, they don’t ever get involved in politics.# They end up sitting on their seat typing junk.”

Anyway, we’re not anonymous as Schweighart implies in the interview. For example, I asked the mayor to appear on SP Radio, and one of our writers asked for an interview for a written piece. And, I don’t want to speak for everyone, but I bet at least some of the editors would love to sit down for a face-to-face chat with the mayor and his reps to discuss local issues, especially if he should prevail in today’s election.

*By this, I assume he means that Obama was born in Kenya.

#Everybody knows Smile Politely is Seth Fein’s vehicle to run for County Auditor some day.
