Sad, but true it is. The Urbana Butcher Shop announced via Facebook yesterday that it would be closing its doors after this weekend. Since the lease on the space is good for another year, though, owner Joshua Boyd hopes to hold weekend pop-ups there. You can follow the Facebook page for more information about those events. If you’re looking to pick up your bacon from your contribution to the Bacon Fund, contact the shop. If you’ve purchased gift certificates through CiSaves, they will be honored this weekend and for the future pop-ups.

So, friends. There is no good way to say this, but we have made a valiant effort at creating an amazing butcher shop, and for the most part, I believe that we have. But, as the issue with any business in our community during the summer, we have basically hit a financial wall that we are not able to dig ourselves out of. Now, this leaves us at the shop feeling terrible, because the ones suffering the are our customers who we have grown oddly fond of. Unfortunately, we can not continue as a butcher shop. Anyone that we owe bacon to, we will still get it to you, but it will take us a little bit of time.
With that being said, we still have this space for a whole other year. Instead of being all weepy and sad about the butcher shop no longer existing, lets think about all of the possibilities to come. We are turning the shop into a commercial kitchen rental/pop up restaurant headquarters. Our goal is to every Thursday-Saturday, have a new chef/concept in the space and do a crazy cool meal. The way the dinners will mostly work will be a la carte, no reservation, cash only, BYOB, bad ass restaurant extravaganza.
So, anyway. This weekend will be our last weekend, but please stay tuned for more information on super cool stuff to come!
