Unit 4 School Board votes on referendum for new “Central” High School

Last night, the Unit 4 School Board voted unanimously to move forward with a proposal to ask for $149 million dollars in taxes from Champaign property owners to build a new Central High School on Interstate Dr. in the north part of Champaign.

Part of that will be investing almost one third of it to upgrade Centennial.

Said Unit 4 Board President Laurie Bonnett:

“Teachers have been dreaming. Kids have been dreaming. It is time for somebody to pull the plug and take some action. I’m excited for a new high school. I don’t give a damn where it’s at.”

The vote comes this November with the mid-term elections.
