The University of Illinois (U of I) received Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the rapid saliva test for COVID-19.
Whew! That’s a lot of letters.
What does all that mean? It means that the U of I has approval from the government that the rapid saliva test “performs at least as well as the recently approved saliva-testing protocol.” There is no word yet on how and/or when this technology would be available to or implemented in other communities across Illinois. Saliva testing is currently only available to faculty, staff, and students in the U of I system. We will keep you posted as we learn more information.
