One of the best things about living in a relatively small community is that we band together in times of crisis. Over the past week, we have been faced with the terrifying news of a potential kidnapping of a University of Illinois student, and in response, the community has stepped up.
The U of I Community Credit Union is no exception and has even launched their own GoFundMe for the search. For more information, check out the press release below:
U of I Community Credit Union Raising Funds for Family of Missing U of I Student
Champaign, IL – In collaboration with the University of Illinois and University of Illinois Police, the U of I Community Credit Union has set up a Humanitarian Assistance Account and a GoFundMe campaign to help support the family of missing U of I scholar Yingying Zhang while the search for her continues.
The funds raised will be spent at the discretion of the family for expenses incurred during their time in Champaign-Urbana, and possible rewards for information that helps the University of Illinois Police and responsible law enforcement agencies to find Yingying Zhang and safely return her to her family.
“It’s a terrible situation for their family, our University, and our community,” said E.J. Donaghey, President/Chief Executive Officer. “We wish for her safe return, and we want to do all we can to help support the family during this difficult time.”
Donations can be made via GoFundMe at https://www.gofundme.com/missing-u-of-i-scholar or by visiting any U of I Community Credit Union branch.
