U-C Energy Star Challenge surpasses first two goals

The Urbana-Champaign ENERGY STAR Challenge has exceeded the first two goals in the partnership’s two year effort to engage commercial buildings to save energy. Presently 61 buildings are registered for the Challenge and 28 have submitted documentation of their benchmark energy performance. The goals for the Urbana-Champaign competition were 50 buildings registered and 25 buildings benchmarked. By comparison, similar competitions in Portland, Seattle, and Boise are attracting 64, 110, and 41 registrations respectively. Additional goals for the local effort include achieving energy savings in 10 buildings and helping 5 of these buildings achieve ENERGY STAR Certification.

The Urbana-Champaign ENERGY STAR Challenge is part of the larger efforts of the Challenge Partners to reduce pollution and improve sustainability and prosperity in our region.
