Twin City Derby Girls hosting roller derby tryouts

The extremely awesome Twin City Derby Girls are hosting roller derby tryouts next month. I’m putting on a helmet and wearing a mouthguard just to type this information.

From the release:

Ready to Roll?

Twin City Derby Girls, a Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) sanctioned team, are holding their next open tryouts on Sunday, February 22nd at 9:30 AM at Skateland Savoy, 208 West Curtis Road, Savoy, llinois. Anyone who is 18 years of age or older (by the next date of tryouts) and has current health insurance can try out to be a Twin City Derby Girl.  Basic skating skills, understanding of the game, paperwork and proper equipment are required for tryouts. Visit twincityderbygirls.com  for more information and to download the required forms.

Interested skaters, referees, coaches, and volunteers should email TCDGmembership@gmail.com to register prior to tryouts.

Bring it!

Gear: Everyone trying out must wear quad skates, wrist guards, knee and elbow pads, a helmet and a mouthguard. You MUST bring your own mouthguard and, if possible, your own helmet.

Insurance: Please also bring a copy of your State ID and Insurance Card. For more information and to download the REQUIRED FORMS please visit http://twincityderbygirls.com/site/about/joining

Cost: $4 for speed skates/gear rental (if needed).

Safety: Skateland has elbow pads, knee pads, wrist guards and helmets. Everyone trying out MUST bring their own mouthguard (available for $2-$3 at most retail stores like Walmart, Meijer, etc.). It is also strongly recommended that you bring your own helmet (a bike helmet works just fine).

Derby is a competitive sport. We take our league, the safety of skaters and our tryout process very seriously. No exceptions will be made for the requirements of tryouts.

Roller Derby In Action!

TCDG kicks off their 2015 season on Sunday, February 8th, 6:30 PM, at Skateland Savoy.
