There’s boozy soft serve at Collective Pour

Is there anything better than ice cream on a summer day? How about boozy soft serve? Collective Pour just bought a new machine that will turn any alcohol into soft serve.

I stopped by and tried the new frozen treat ($6). When I visited, the flavor was a blueberry sour beer by Liquid Love Brewing called Sad Thug.

The wild thing is that this tasted like ice cream. There’s no dairy in the mix, but the texture was insanely similar. Cold and smooth, this boozy soft serve was like a fruity sorbet but thicker, and it had the iconic soft serve look. It tasted just like the beer, with a great sour fruitiness and a bit of the beer’s carbonation.

It was so good I went back another night to try a different flavor.

This one was called Where’s the Beach? Made with bourbon, fresh pineapple juice, and amaretto, it was a great dessert after a dinner in Downtown Champaign. The amaretto and pineapple flavors were strong, and I still could taste the bourbon, too. It tasted just like a cocktail, just a super icy, smooth soft serve version.

All boozy soft serves are $6, and the flavors rotate regularly. Follow the bar on Facebook for updates on the current soft serve flavor.
