The Illinois Marathon will not have a marathon this year

It was just announced that the Illinois Marathon, now Illinois Race Weekend, will not be holding a marathon race in 2022. The half-marathon, 10K, 5K, Green Street Mile, and Youth Run will still go on, with route changes. Here is the summary of changes:

Summary of the 2022 Race Weekend Changes

  • The 26.2-mile marathon event will NOT be held in 2022. Marathoner entrants have six options to choose from regarding their registration, including a refund. Marathoners will receive a separate email from race organizers with all the details.
  • The half marathon, relay, and 10K will take place on April 30 on a new route that largely encompasses the University of Illinois campus and some nearby neighborhoods in Champaign and Urbana. The new wave start time for the half marathon, 10K, and relay is 7:33 a.m.
  • The Green Street Mile will take place on Friday, April 29 (instead of Thursday, April 28), before the 5K, and be run on First Street, starting at 6:10 p.m. Triple Half-I, Triple Mini-i, and Triple Marathon Relay I-Challengers will have two races on Friday!  (The 5K will take place as planned, starting at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 29.)
  • The Youth Run will start at Noon on Saturday, April 30 (instead of at 3:00 p.m.), inside Memorial Stadium, as originally planned.

All participants ages 5 and over, for all races besides the Youth Run, need to be fully vaccinated (and boosted if applicable) or present a negative test.
