Although The 92s have relocated to Chicago, they still have undeniably strong ties to the local music scene, and to other local bands, such as one of C-U’s most active young bands Tara Terra. The two groups are collaborating to produce a split EP. See the press release below for details.
Champaign stalwarts Tara Terra and Champaign ex-pats The 92s are heading to Earth Analog studios in Tolono on May 30th to record a split single together. This release will follow-up both band’s debut full-length albums, Tara Terra’s Daughter and The 92s’ Television Fuzz, respectively.
The 92s will be recording “Eloise,” a new song that the band describes as “grungy doo-wop,” while Tara Terra will record their new song “Rope Swing,” a dynamic song with exposed harmonies decorated with familiar and nostalgic lyrics.
Listeners will be able to hear the split sometime in early summer, before Tara Terra heads on tour to the East Coast, featuring a stop at Abbey Pub in Chicago with The 92s.
Dan Durley of The 92s had this to say about working with Tara Terra:
“I think it was just a matter of time before we got together and did something like this. As a band, we sort of see Tara Terra as our sibling. I met Emily years ago when her acapella group did a one-off show with a backing band, and since then, I’ve just had an enormous amount of respect for her songwriting. And after seeing all of the members of Tara Terra play and getting to know them better, we have an enormous amount of respect for all of them as well. They’re just a really great band, period.”Colin Althaus of Tara Terra will produce, engineer and mix the session, following his work on Tara Terra’s Daughter and Motes’ upcoming album Keep it In the Dark, both of which were also tracked at Earth Analog. Expect some collaboration between the bands on each song.
Stay tuned.
