Speculative Futures, a new series on tech and creativity, happening November 3-4

Speculative Futures, a new series where technology and creativity meet, will debuting this November 3-4 at U of I. The event was designed to to promote future projects through the University and to celebrate U of I’s long time endeavors such as ILLIAC and of course, HAL from 2001: A Space Odyssey.

The event will take place over two days and inlcude artists, writers, and technology innovators coming together to create new projects.

Featured Guests include:

• DJ Lynnée Denise, a cultural producer who spent her most recent years as a lecturer at California State University Los Angeles
• John Jennings, professor of Media and Cultural Studies at the University of California at Riverside whose work centers around intersectional narratives regarding identity politics and popular media
• Stacey Robinson, an assistant professor in graphic design and illustration at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, and is an Arthur Schomburg fellow
• Alex Shakar, an associate professor on the fiction faculty at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and author of books including Luminarium, which won the 2011 Los Angeles Times Book Prize for Fiction

Lynne M. Thomas, Head of the Rare Books and Manuscript Library and Juanita J. and Robert E. Simpson, Rare Book and Manuscript Professor at the University of Illinois, will moderate the event.
