Slow Food & Homesteading talk with Deborah Neimann

Join Jane Addams Book Shop in welcoming Deborah Neimann on Saturday, October 15 for a talk and reception where she will talk about her new book “Homegrown and Handmade”. We will start with a talk at 1 p.m. with a reception to follow.

For more than five years Don and Susan have been learning more and more about where our food comes from and how this not only affects us personally but how it affects the world around us. The more they learned, the more they became committed to supporting local farming. They are now members of two farm shares, the local food coop, and the local Slow Foods chapter in Champaign/Urbana. They have been looking for ways to share this passion with others, so when Deborah Niemann asked to do a book signing at the store they knew it was a perfect fit. Deborah has written a great book on homesteading which she describes as “any home that provides an example of sustainability and beauty, whether it’s a Chicago loft powered by solar panels, a Santa Fe suburban straw bale home or an off-the-grid farm on the Kansas prairie.”

Whether you share the passion or want to learn about this movement, we have been told Deborah is a great speaker and we encourage you to come hear what she has to say and taste appetizers from Prairie Fruits Farm and Triple S Farms.
