Senatorial Vacancy to Be Filled Monday morning.

It is expected that Scott Bennett of Champaign County will be appointed Monday morning as State Senator for the 52nd Legislative District, which includes substantial portions of Champaign and Vermilion counties.

The Legislative Committee of the Democratic Party of the 52nd Legislative District will convene Monday morning, January 12, 2015 to appoint a successor to State Senator Michael Frerichs, who vacated his seat at midnight, and who will become Illinois State Treasurer at 11 am Monday. The committee will complete its work as expeditiously as possible, so that the duration of the vacancy will be minimal and the new Senator can participate in the final moments of the 98th General Assembly as well as the formation of the 99th Assembly in Springfield.

Members of the Committee are Democratic Chairmen Al Klein and Frank Wright of Champaign and Vermilion counties, respectively. This is a public meeting and is open to the media, but no candidates are scheduled to appear, and no additional presentations will be entertained before the selection is officially made.

10:15 a.m. (time approximate): The Committee will recess to the Courtroom of the Honorable Arnold F. Blockman in the Champaign County Courthouse, 101 East Main Street, Urbana Illinois (Courtroom “G”, second floor). The appointee will join us at that time. The public and media are welcome, and photography and recording are permitted as the appointee is sworn in as State Senator and the official documents are prepared. The meeting will then adjourn.
