Smile Politely

Revised commenting policy

Since the comment thread on which this was announced has been closed, here is our new commenting policy, effective yesterday:

We welcome passionate and ideologically diverse views provided they are stated respectfully and with decorum. Hate speech, bigotry, insults, and trolling will not be tolerated. If the majority of Editors decide that your behavior is uncivil, we will ask that you change it or your commenting privileges may be suspended indefinitely.

Smile Politely reserves the right to delete any message for any reason.

Additionally, Smile Politely is proud to offer a space for people to offer an opinion on any of our articles. However, we ask that everyone use their best judgment in refraining from completely taking over discussions. Everyone has the right to defend their opinions, but two to three comments in any given article should be fairly sufficient (with few exceptions). Our goal is to eliminate unending discussion threads that lead to two, three or four individuals going back and forth on the same points over and over again. We have found that this tends to take attention away from the good work of other authors on our site.

Have a wonderful day!
