Tea ceremonies are wonderful way to learn about the history of Japan House, and experience “Chado”, or the way of tea.
After a long hiatus, the public can now reserve tickets for Wednesday evening tea ceremonies; the first one is happening March 16th at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 for students and Tomonokai members, and $15 for the general public. A few important things to know:
- Ceremonies are limited to 15 people and reservations are required
- Masks are required except when tasting tea or sweets
- You will need to remove your shoes or wear shoe covers, and you should wear white socks
- You are asked to have your legs covered, staying in line with Japanese tradition
- There is kneeling and standing involved, but if needed you can be accomodated with a chair
