Parkland College is offering a free course for English language learners who are seeking a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). The class is funded by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, and is offered through the adult education department.
According the instructor, Professor of ESL Tracey Brown, “these students will learn the specific vocabulary, reading, listening, and speaking skills necessary to be successful not only in Parkland’s CDL class but — more importantly — on the written and oral state tests required for a commercial driver’s license.”
The first class will begin in January, and applicants will have to successfully complete a test to be admitted. Those who do not pass will be offered additional instruction in English language skills so that they can apply again for a future class.
