Parkland Art & Design faculty exhibit opening August 18

The 2014 Parkland Art & Design Faculty Exhibition runs August 18 – September 20 with a special reception on Thursday, August 21 from 6 – 8pm.

* Naming Ceremony for the Donna Hyland Giertz Gallery at 6pm

* Gallery Talk by Kelly White at 7pm

* Music by Ms M and the Jokers

The newly named Giertz Gallery at Parkland College is proud to present the Annual Art & Design Faculty Exhibition, opening Monday, August 18. The exhibit is an annual showcase of art created by faculty and includes sculpture, painting, photography, metals, ceramics, graphic design and digital media. An opening reception for the artists and a ceremony honoring the new name of the gallery in honor of Donna Giertz will take place Thursday, August 21. The exhibition runs through Saturday, Sept. 20.

To celebrate the opening of the faculty art exhibit and the renaming of the gallery, a public reception is scheduled from 6-8pm on Thursday, August 21. Festivities will feature music by Ms M and the Jokers. At 6pm there will be an official recognition and unveiling of the new signage for Donna Giertz for her 20+ years of service to Parkland College in addition to a monetary gift. Donna Giertz was a professor of marketing, management and international business at Parkland from 1980 to 2003, and was elected to the Parkland Board of Trustees in April 2005. The existing gallery will now be known as “The Donna Hyland Giertz Gallery,” also known as “The Giertz Gallery at Parkland College.” In addition to the naming ceremony, Kelly White will give a gallery talk about her artwork at 7pm. She is a practicing painter, teaches art history at Parkland College, and serves as the Executive Director for 40 North, Champaign County Arts, Culture, and Education Council.
