New Awakenings Concert Series was inspired by social change

Though reflecting the social change and climate of the past couple years, including events such as the murder of George Floyd and how it affected the nation, University of Illinois School of Music jazz vocalist professor Barrington Coleman was inspired to create something new.

Coleman wanted something that could both help us through difficult times, and push us out of our comfort zone. He organized the New Awakenings Concert Series, which features a combination of concert chamber music and jazz, with guests including conductor Robert A. Harris from Northwestern University and Grammy Award winning bassist Christian McBride.

The first event is April 9th; the second is May 1st. Both performances are at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts.
