The primary election is six months away, and the presidential election is more than a year away, but the League of Women Voters want to make sure people are getting registered to vote. Along with the Champaign and Urbana libraries, they are hosting a voter registration drive on Tuesday, September 24th in honor of National Voter Registration Day.
From Trisha Crowley, president of the local chapter. “We are proud to participate in this 50-state effort to register voters for the 2020 election season. Every eligible American voter should exercise his or her right to be heard at the ballot box.”
Champaign County Clerk Aaron Ammons and his staff will also be holding an event, at Parkland College in the cafeteria, as well as registering voters at the County Clerk’s office: “National Voter Registration Day is another opportunity for us to bring awareness to the importance of registering and voting. We are excited to be at Parkland this year registering people. We have some exciting initiatives and partnerships surrounding voter registration coming up so stay tuned. We are committed to continuing voter education and voter registration at community events as part of our mission.”
It’s important to note: Those who will be 17 by the primary date can register now to vote in the primary election. This is also an opportunity for people to check on their current registration status and ask questions about voting.
