National Theatre Live returns to the Art!

The fantastic stage-to-screen performance series National Theatre Live is coming back to the Art Theater Co-op with Man and Superman, starring Ralph Fiennes.

The performance will screen Sunday, May 31st, at 2:30 p.m., and Wednesday, June 3rd, at 1:30 p.m.

Man and Superman, by George Bernard Shaw, is introducted thusly on the Art’s website:

A romantic comedy, an epic fairytale, a fiery philosophical debate, Man and Superman asks fundamental questions about how we live. Ralph Fiennes takes the role of Jack Tanner in this exhilarating reinvention of Shaw’s witty, provocative classic.

Jack Tanner, celebrated radical thinker and rich bachelor, seems an unlikely choice as guardian to the alluring heiress, Ann. But she takes it in her assured stride and, despite the love of a poet, she decides to marry and tame this dazzling revolutionary.

Tanner, appalled by the whiff of domesticity, is tipped off by his chauffeur and flees to Spain, where he is captured by bandits and meets The Devil. An extraordinary dream-debate, heaven versus hell, ensues. Following in hot pursuit, Ann is there when Tanner awakes, as fierce in her certainty as he is in his.

This is an unbelievable opportunity for C-U residents to see some of the best theatre in the world right here in our community. If you’ve never been, I urge you to give it a try. Not only is the quality of the work truly impressive, but your participation and support of the program makes it more financially viable for the good folks at the Art to keep bringing events like this to our town.
