Middle Fork River Forest Preserve is improving the dark sky experience

Middle Fork River Forest Preserve was designated a “Dark Sky Park” by the International Dark Sky Association in 2018. Now, thanks to a $294,000 Illinois Department of Natural Resources Open Space Land Acquisition and Development Grant awarded by Governor Pritzker earlier this month, the Champaign County Forest Preserve District will be able to enhance the experience of stargazers.

CCFPD has a list of improvements that the grant will fund: a dark sky trail, observatory, shelter, parking lot, nature play area, and more campgrounds. They will also be improving ADA accessibility.
