Kindred update: Damian Duffy to speak at Urbana Free Library

We haven’t talked about the graphic novel adaptation of Kindred this week…mostly because working at the library doesn’t bump you up the Request List and this book is in high demand.

Skip the line and get the VIP treatment at Urbana Free Library tomorrow, where author Damian Duffy will be speaking about and signing copies of this NYTimes-bestselling, Junot Diaz blurb-sporting, Nnedi Okorafor-forwarded adaptation.

Octavia Butler’s genre-bending story features the black wife of an interracial couple being unpredicatably drawn back in time to protect her ancestor. The ancestor lives on a plantation before the Civil War Era. She lives in California after the Civil Rights Era. Problems ensue.

If you want to find out what happens next… if you want to find out how to make a living as a cartoonist… if you want to know why two dudes chose to adapt a woman’s story…The event takes place on Wednesday, March 15th from 7-8 p.m. in the Lewis Auditorium in the basement of Urbana Free Library at the corner of Race and Elm.
