Proposed Illinois budget cuts have local impact, national profile

From the Huffington Post:

Prairie [Treatment] Center’s funding was cut by $900,000 in 2008, forcing it to close its detoxification program and lay off 22 employees. The detox program reopened after some of the money was restored and six nurses were rehired. [Prairie Health Systems CEO Bruce] Suardini pledged to fight the latest proposals as well.

Said Suardini:

It seems to me he’s [Governer Quinn] taking the most vulnerable and making those people come to Springfield and cry and beg and get legislators to change their minds on what programs to cut.

Budget cuts like these not only hurt those who need the most help in our community, they lower the standard of living for all of us.

Thankfully, these proposed cuts are by no means a reality…yet.  In the meantime, you can urge your local lawmaker to put an end to this short-sighted, fatalistic pile of crap that Quinn has offered up.
