Hearbreak Into Hope

Recent events remind us once again that “Black Lives Matter” and that our youth need more support. Our C-U community is holding an annual event that is part of turning this heartbreak into hope.

Local high school seniors are invitied to write about their perspectives on Dr. King’s dream, on peace and justice. Their work is submitted to a team of devoted leaders.  Worthy students are awarded Martin Luther King scholarships to help them pursue their dreams. Scholarships will be  awarded at Krannert Center on January 18th.  Music begins at 4:30 p.m. and the ceremony at 5 p.m.

Premier choir directors and musicians come together to create the Martin Luther King Community Choir. Local leaders come to speak. This ceremony may well move you to tears. These beautiful young people deserve our support. Donations are needed to make the scholarships possible. A free will offering will be taken at the ceremony and checks may be sent to the Salem Baptist Church (500 East Park Street in Champaign) for the Martin Luther King Scholarship Fund.
