Fiction reading by Champaign author Letitia Moffitt set at EIU’s Doudna

A fiction reading with author Letitia L. Moffitt will be held Thursday, February 20th at 7:30 p.m. in the Doudna Fine Arts Center Lecture Hall on the campus of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.

Moffitt taught creative writing at EIU for five years and currently resides in Champaign. Her novel-in-stories Sidewalk Dancing was recently published by Atticus Books. Her short stories, essays, and poetry have been published in literary journals including PANK, HTMLGiant, Black Warrior Review, Aux Arc Review and Dos Passos Review.

“Letitia Moffitt’s book, Sidewalk Dancing, will interest students and community members alike,” said Lania Knight, assistant professor of English. “Moffitt writes interconnected fictional stories about a family, beginning with the Chinese-American mother who is struggling to fit into her new culture, and then continuing with members of the younger generation and their brave but often stumbling attempts to make their way in modern American life.”

Moffitt is an avid runner, participating in marathons and ultramarathons throughout the year. She documents these experiences and other life stories on her blog.

The reading is sponsored by the EIU Department of English, and is free and open to the public. For more information, call 217-581-2428 or visit www.eiu.edu/english.
