Democrat sought for County Board vacancy

From the press release:

Interested applicants should submit a statement of interest via email by Jan. 2nd and attend an informal meet and greet on Jan. 9th.

The Champaign County Democrats seek applicants to fill a vacant county board seat in district eight.

“District eight needs a new county board member and democrats want to make sure we get someone who has superb qualifications and reflects the progressive values of the district,” said Josh Hartke, a member of both the county board and the central committee. “Serving on the county board can be challenging at times but it is also rewarding. It is a great opportunity for the right person to serve the community and be involved in important decisions that affect everyone living in our county.”

A vacancy on the county board is filled by appointment of the resigning member’s party, subject to confirmation by the county board. This process is provided for in County Board Resolution 8857, Section 5, passed in May of this year. By state law, the position must be filled by Feb. 2nd. To be qualified an applicant must be eighteen years of age and live in county board district eight. District eight includes greater downtown Champaign and parts of campustown into Urbana. Its boarders are roughly Prospect Avenue to the west, Vine Street and University Avenue to the north, Springfield Avenue and Nevada Street to the south and Lincoln Avenue to the east. A map of the district can be found at here.

Interested applicants should submit an email that contains a statement of their interest, telephone number, residential address, and summary of their qualifications to jthartke713@yahoo.com before Jan. 2nd. An informal meet and greet, open to the public, will be held on Jan. 9th at 5:00 p.m. at the Democratic Party headquarters, 110 S. Neil Street, Champaign. Any questions about the application process can be directed to Mr. Hartke at 217-390-2808.
