The Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District is hosting Gil Penalosa of 8-80 Cities in his visit to our community March 30th through April 1st. On Monday, March 31st, Penalosa will present on the topic of walking, biking and public transportation to create vibrant and healthy communities. Mr. Penalosa is an internationally-recognized expert in the field of transforming cities into places where people can walk, bike and access public transit for transportation. A public presentation open to all will be from Noon until 1:00 at the Champaign Public Library’s Robeson Room. There will be a 30-minute presentation followed by a discussion. Anyone interested in hearing expert advice for how to create a healthy community for all from 8 to 80 years old is invited to attend.
MTD is hosting the American Public Transportation Association’s Public Transportation and Universities Conference at the iHotel and Conference Center from March 30 through April 1. Mr. Penalosa is the keynote speaker at the conference and while here will also be speaking with community groups, University of Illinois students, elected officials and developers. His unique and informed perspective on dynamic environments for sustainable mobility and great public places will help educate the local community on what is possible.
