Cosmo Coffee Hour celebrates Chinese New Year

The University YMCA has a new monthly program called Cosmo Coffee Hour, which celebrates different cultures each month.

This Saturday’s event is all about celebrating Chinese Lunar New Year:

Date: Saturday, February 21st, 2015
Time: 1PM – 4PM
Location: University YMCA, 1001 S. Wright St, Champaign (Corner of Wright & Chalmers)

Lunar New Year is an important traditional Chinese holiday celebrated at the turn of the Chinese calendar. Because the Chinese calendar is lunisolar, the Chinese New Year is often referred to as the “Lunar New Year”.  InChina, it is also known as the Spring Festival, the literal translation of the modern Chinese name. Chinese New Year celebrations traditionally run from Chinese New Year’s Eve, the last day of the last month of the Chinese calendar, to the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first month, making the festival the longest in the Chinese calendar.

Come celebrate the Year of the Goat with performances by local artists and student organizations, interactive cultural booths, and traditional foods.

This event is free and open to all!

Cosmo Coffee Hours are now monthly celebrations! Each month during the fall and spring semesters, join us for a fun and exciting Cosmo Coffee Celebration. At Cosmo Coffee, enjoy the festivities while sipping coffee, tea, and enjoying homemade ethnic dishes and desserts. Cosmo Coffees are good opportunities to meet people from around the world and learn about other cultures.

Sponsors: Asian American Cultural Center, the University YMCA, CEAPS.

The University YMCA is located at 1001 S Wright Street, Champaign.
