In this classic “tale as old as time,” a young woman named Belle meets the Beast, a prince trapped under a curse. The Beast must learn how to love in order to save himself and his household, and he soon finds unexpected help through Belle.

Join CUTC for the enchanted story of Beauty and the Beast, based on the Academy Award-winning Disney film. The stage production has captivated audiences for over 25 years. It features all the songs found within the classic film, as well as pieces written for the Broadway production, which was nominated for nine Tony awards, including Best Musical.

Havice directs a cast of nearly 50 thespians that includes middle school and high school students from communities throughout the area. Emmy Daniels and Jerry Strain play Belle and the Beast, respectively. The production will also include choreographed musical numbers and captivating costuming that helps bring the story to life.

CUTC’s production of Beauty and the Beast is their 14th Annual Kathy Murphy Student Production. One of the founding members of CUTC, Kathy Murphy, who passed away in 2009, was a unifying life force throughout the company’s history. She had a vision of bringing together middle and high school students from all over the area in the spirit of comradery, created through the impact of theater.

The Champaign Urbana Theatre Company is community theatre for the community, by the community, since 1991. Find more information at cutheatreco.org.
