Champaign City Council votes to allow varsity football at McKinley Field

The question of whether or not to allow for a varsity football game to be played at McKinley Field was answered by the Champaign City Council last night: Yes. In a 5-3 vote, the City Council approved one varsity game to be played at the field on Saturday, September 24th, making an exception to a 2018 intergovernmental agreement between the City and Unit 4.

Plenty of folks who live in the neighborhood didn’t want the game to be approved

The cost of all the stuff that comes along with hosting a game at the site is a little over $4,000, which is $650 more than it would cost to have the game at Tommy Stewart Field.
