The Rekkid Store Report – Sept. 15

Muse album cover

Soooo…tell me about your new releases:

Well, the ever productive Muse has kicked out another album that is likely to go completely unnoticed by most Americans, despite their immense popularity in the U.K. (consider that one year at Glastonbury the three headliners were Radiohead, Oasis, and Muse), and also despite plenty of attempts to force them in front of American music fans-  hey, they even played at last weekend’s MTV VMAs. Muse (who even played Assembly Hall once, opening for Foo Fighters/Red Hot Chili Peppers in 1999) often pull Radiohead comparisons thanks to their moody but punch-packing rock, and the new album, Resistance, is certainly worth a look. Also check out 2004’s Absolution, which is probably their opus.

Other arrivals include the original score to the film Paper Heart, inexplicably released over a month after the film’s release, and containing original tracks from the film’s stars, Charlyne Yi and perpetual fifteen-year-old Michael Cera. Zach Condon (of Beirut fame) also contributes. Love ‘em or hate ‘em, Sunny Day Real Estate made waves with their first two records on Sub Pop, and now both are seeing the remastered re-release treatment. And Mark Knopfler (of Dire Straits) continues to release smart, solid albums – Get Lucky is out this week.
