Coaster hails from Chicago and they’ve released some material this year, including some demos last month, as well as a couple of singles earlier this year. You can hear all of that over at their Bandcamp page for a taste. Los Assparados play “rock ‘n fucking roll” and is a group made up of some familiar foes in Sam Cronenberg (Midstress, The Stars They Beckon), James Onderdonk and Chris Wahlfeldt (Midstress). Not only that, a pair of locals add onto that, as Kowabunga Kid just released a new EP, and Book Mobile! round things out.

Krannert Center for the Performing Arts — Thursday, September 5 through Saturday, September 7

The world-class ELLNORA: The Guitar Festial is back after its typical two-year break in action. 2011 was a great year, and 2013 will once again prove that ELLNORA is something to behold in the world of music festivals. Held in the terrific Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, you can see the whole lineup linked above, which includes Buddy Guy (pictured), Lucinda Williams, J. Spaceman, Kaki King, Cindy Cashdollar and many, many others. We’ll have full coverage of the event all this week, so be on the lookout for plenty of articles and previews for artists performing this year over in Urbana.

WHAT: Avery Strange, Flamingo, Marathon, Crank Wizards

A handful of solid bands lined up over at Error Records on Thursday night this week. If you’re asking why the poster to the right is rotated, it’s becasue it is supposed to be that way. Whoa. An all local bill lead by Avery Strange, and also features Crank Wizards, a band interviewed a few weeks back by Brendan. Check that out here.

WHAT: Norwegian Arms, Ryan Groff

WHERE: Cowboy Monkey ($5 free)

Folk outfit Norwegian Arms are on a “tiny tour”, which they’re on the tail end of at this point in time as they reach Champaign on Thursday. You can check out their debut album over at their Bandcamp. Joining in is Elsinore’s Ryan Groff, which will most likely be performing some familiar tunes, as well as some new tunes from their upcoming full-length PUSH / PULL.

WHAT: Mathien, Tristian Lake, The Chromatic Black, When We Were Sound

Mathien is on tour at the moment (and a decently lengthy one at that) and are joined by a handful of others over at The Canopy Club. They haven’t played in Champaign-Urbana in quite a while, so head over and check them out.

WHERE: Mike ‘N Molly’s ($5)

Local C-U emcee Swords takes the stage over at Cowboy Monkey Mike ‘N Molly’s to round out the week. He’s been around for quite some time, and is one of the best emcees around, so it’s definitely worth heading over and seeing him perform. You can check out some of his tracks over at his Bandcamp free of charge.

Chalice Dubs Masquerade is back at the Canopy Club this Friday for some womp womp action. It’s their third Birthday, and they’re celebrating with a bunch of acts ready to bring the house down.

WHAT: Woodie, Alec’s Band, The Autocorrect

WHERE: Mike ‘N Molly’s ($7)
 
WHEN: Saturday, September 7th at 8 p.m.
 
Woodie headlines this trio of acts set to go over at Mike ‘N Molly’s on Saturday night in the beergarden. Woodie is made up of members of Hank. and Panel Van, which is a solid combination. This is the debut performance by Autocorrect, and Alec’s Band (who just recently released a new album back in August) rounds out the bill.

WHAT: The Timmys, Orange Soda, RDNT, Hidden Machine

WHERE: Error Records ($5)
 
WHEN: Sunday, September 8th at 7 p.m.
 
Error Records hosts another Sunday show this weekend, featuring Springfield crews lead by punks The Timmys and RDNT, and joined b y local punk outfit Orange Soda (who put out a good EP last year) and Hidden Machine.

WHAT: Sevendust, American Fangs, Degrade the Signal

WHEN: Sunday, September 8th at 7 p.m.
 
Alt-metal outfit Sevendust is out of Atlanta, Georgia. The band recently released their new album earlier this year entitled Black Out the Sun Out, and are joined by American Fangs and locals Degrade the Signal.
