The Overture: September 27 – October 3

WHAT: Hank, Midstress, We Must Dismantle All This!, The Prairie State

WHERE: Red Star Liquors ($3)

WHEN: Thursday, September 29th at 9:00 p.m.

This is a benefit/fundraiser for the C-U Collective, a recently founded booking group. There will be a raffle, bake sale, and punk rock, including the debut of new project Hank.

WHAT: Death Cab For Cutie, Telekinesis

WHERE: Assembly Hall ($26 – $35)

WHEN: Saturday, October 1st at 7:30 p.m.

Death Cab comes back to Assembly Hall for the second time, following a show three years ago. Expect to hear a lot of material from the excellent Codes & Keys, and probably some of those epic high school jams off of The Photo Album. Natch.

WHAT: Lupe Fiasco, the Cool Kids

WHERE: Assembly Hall ($29 – $40)

WHEN: Sunday, October 2nd at 7:30 p.m.

It’s not a secret that Lupe’s recorded output has dropped off a bit in quality recently, but that’s arguably been due more to label issues than a lack of talent. And remember, he still made “Kick, Push”. Also, forgotten but actually pretty good hipster rap act The Cool Kids will open up. Remember them?

WHAT: Sound Tribe Sector 9

WHERE: Canopy Club ($20 advance)

WHEN: Sunday, October 2nd at 8:00 p.m.

If you’ve avoided STS9 because of their jamband leanings, I recommend giving them another look, since you might find yourself liking their hip-hop and post rock elements. Where better to do it than a live show?
