The Overture: November 8–14

WHAT: Arrah and the Ferns, Bears of Blue River, Evil Tents

WHERE: Mike ‘N Molly’s ($5)

WHEN: Wednesday, November 9th at 9:00 p.m.

Arrah wound up dropping their last local date (back in March) for a show with a guarantee somewhere else, but I’m not going to hold that against them ― gotta get paid, right? So come out and get them some money.

WHAT: Maps & Atlases, Easter

WHERE: Courtyard Cafe ($9 student/$12 public)

WHEN: Thursday, November 10th at 9:00 p.m.

I bet it’s been a while since you actually went to a show at the Courtyard, but despite its downsides (womb-like cavernous space, occasionally awful sound, actual checking of student IDs), it can still be a great place to see a show. Plus, nine bucks is a steal for Maps and Atlases

WHAT
: Vivian McConnell and Friends, Cousin Dud, Nick Martin

WHERE: Mike ‘N Molly’s

WHEN: Saturday, November 12th at 9:30 p.m.

Viv is promising an impressive guest list for this one — in addition to every other member of Grandkids, you’ll get appearances by Ryan Groff and Mike Brackett (Midstress), a set from Bloomington’s Cousin Dud, and standup from Buzz’s Nick Martin. Also: apparently there are a few duets with Groff (not entitled “Ultraviolence”) that will blow your mind.

WHAT: Finer Feelings

WHERE: WEFT Sessions (FREE)

WHEN: Monday, November 14th at 10:00 p.m.

Shameless plug: SP writer Chris Davies is in this band. Mostly, I’m just writing this up because they talk about Big Flats Beer, the Walgreens nectar of the gods, on their Bandcamp page.
