Smile Politely

The Overture: November 15 – 21

WHAT: Coyote Grace

WHERE: IMC ($TBA)

WHEN: Thursday, November 17th at 7:00 p.m.

A co-production of the UP Center and university LGBTQ Resource Center, this show is part of the Transgender Day of Remembrance. Acoustic music and the IMC go hand in hand, so this should be a good one.

WHAT: Grandkids, Midstress, Deathtram, Isaac Arms, Petunias

WHERE: Mike ‘N Molly’s ($5)

WHEN: Thursday, November 17th at 8:00 p.m.

This stuffed lineup is a benefit for the recently founded C-U Collective (check ’em out here if you’re unfamiliar) and kicks off a bit earlier than usual, which is probably a good thing. Face it — you have work in the morning.

WHAT: Ryan Groff, An Evening With Your Mother, Megan Johns

WHERE: Indigo Gallery ($5)

WHEN: Friday, November 18th at 8:30 p.m.

An unamplified show presented by 88.7, this is also doubling as An Evening With Your Mother’s CD release. Five bones is a good deal for that.

WHAT: Hathaways, Facing Winter, the Palace Flophouse

WHERE: Mike ‘N Molly’s ($5)

WHEN: Friday, November 18th at 9:00 p.m.

Quick, what was the best album that came out in Champaign-Urbana this year? You should be thinking about several right now, but Bad Friends Forever should definitely be high on that list.

WHAT: Flamingo, Comfort Food, Avery Strange

WHERE: Iron Post ($TBA)

WHEN: Friday, November 18th at 9:30 p.m.

This bill kind of makes sense considering how much jazz the Iron Post hosts, but these bands are so much noisier and odder than the usual fare at the Post that things are bound to be interesting. And just to clarify, that’s a press image you’re seeing over there.(not editorializing).
