This edition of the Solo Showcase is a chance to catch two of C-U’s leading ladies: Rebecca Rego (of Trainmen fame) and Elizabeth Majerus of Motes.

If the music is better than bad and it’s free, you might as well go. In this case, the music sounds pretty good.


WHAT: Vivacious Audio

WHERE: Memphis On Main

WHEN: Friday, June 19th, 9:30 p.m.

A “classic to modern rock” cover band to drink to at Memphis On Main.


WHAT: ZXO, The Dirt Poor, Again Is Already

WHERE: Cowboy Monkey ($5)

WHEN: Friday, June 19th, 10 p.m.

ZXO is emo twinkles in ambient soundscapes, featuring former members of Hank.


WHAT: Death/Death/Death Fest

WHERE: Thee DeathTower ($5-10)

WHEN: Saturday, June 20th, 3 p.m.

A fest is brewing at Thee DeathTower, featuring mostly local punk and metal bands, and a few from out of town including Springfield’s Asthma and WARRS, and Chicago’s Slow Chapel. The Facebook event page has set times and more info.


The Loose Cobra ($15) — Saturday, June 20th, 4 p.m.

Renowned Chicago folk singer-songwriter Robbie Fulks has played his share of C-U shows, but this one (which is actually in Tolono) is going to be an especially relaxing outdoor daytime into nighttime folk music “fest” with Nashville’s Bobby Bare Jr. and some of C-U’s best locals.


WHAT: Bookmobile!, Schwervon!, Kittens, Inc.

WHERE: Mike N Molly’s

WHEN: Saturday, June 20th, doors at 9 p.m.

Bookmobile! is homegrown Ramones-style punk, and it’s definitely worth catching them here if you haven’t yet.


WHAT: DJ Kosmo

WHERE: Cowboy Monkey ($2)

WHEN: Saturday, June 20th, 10 p.m.

Local DJ Kosmo spins dance tracks at Cowboy-Monkey.
