The Overture: July 6-12

WHAT: Souls, Reduced to Instinct, Heelturn

WHERE: Error Records ($5)

WHEN: Monday, July 6th, doors at 7 p.m., show at 8 p.m.

South Dakota’s Souls will play all the grindy hardcore has all the breakdowns you could possibly ask for on a Monday night — joined by locals Heel Turn and Bloomington’s Reduced to Instinct.

WHAT: Bullnettle, Sad Magick, Horrible Things

WHERE: Dingbat Dungeon ($5)

WHEN: Thursday, July 9th, 8 p.m.

After last week’s show got cut short, Bullnettle is back for round two at Dingbat Dungeon with Horrible Things and a band from Arkansas (they sound kinda like Japandroids).

The Highdive ($12) — Friday, July 10th, 7:30 p.m.

I told my dad I was going to see a band called Diarrhea Planet this week and he said, “I wouldn’t go see that band.” He doesn’t know they’re a four-guitared beast with a penchant for crazy stage antics. Consider local opener Single Player the calm before the storm.

WHAT: Decadents, Ferris

WHERE: Mike N Molly’s ($7)

WHEN: Friday, July 10th, doors at 9 p.m.

Local band Decadants and Chicago’s Ferris have the Mike N Molly’s beergarden stage Friday night.

WHAT: Champaign Music Festival

WHERE: Downtown Champaign (free)

WHEN: Saturday, July 11th, 6 p.m.-midnight

Hey now, Smashmouth, Toad The Wet Sprocket, Curb Service, and Brandon T. Washington are playing for free. Get you game on, go to the show.

WHAT: CLAW featuring Bookmobile! and special guests Choke Chains

WHERE: Mike N Molly’s ($10)

WHEN: Saturday, July 11th, doors at 6 p.m.

CLAW stands for Champaign Ladies Amateur Wrestling — I like the sound of that. They’re performing at Mike N Molly’s with some bands. Check out their Kickstarter campaign and support it if you please.

WHAT: A Cool Hand, Logan & Lucille, Sleeping Cranes, Jack Johnston

WHERE: Airbana (204 W Main St, Urbana) ($5)

WHEN: Saturday, July 11th, doors at 6:30 p.m., show at  p.m.

Airbana is a new “venue” that is actually the lack of a building in between Cafeteria & Co. and Co-Lab in downtown Urbana. The Undercut Collective is repurposing it for a show on Saturday — their first outdoor event and the first event at Airbana.

WHAT: The Dirt Poor CD release show, Penny Horses

WHERE: The Iron Post ($5)

WHEN: Saturday, July 11th, 9 p.m.

You can stream new C-U band The Dirt Poor’s debut album on Bandcamp now and if you like what you hear, head over to their CD release show on Saturday.

WHAT: Tara Terra, Euriah

WHERE: Mike N Molly’s ($7)

WHEN: Saturday, July 11th, doors at 9:30 p.m.

Tara Terra’s tour homecoming celebration is the late show at Mike N Molly’s. We’ll have the details on their tour in a tour diary entry for you to read tomorrow.

WHAT: Birds On A Wire

WHERE: Memphis On Main ($5)

WHEN: Saturday, July 11th, 9:30 p.m.

It’s their “bird-day” party.
