The Overture: July 5 – 11

WHAT: Rusalka, Mammoths, Earthworm Brotherhood

WHERE: Highdive ($2)

WHEN: Tuesday, July 5th at 10:00 p.m.

The Highdive continues hosting excellent shows on the newly-minted side stage with tonight’s show, which skews more towards the post-rock side of things. Bring some earplugs, as Mammoths are one of the louder bands in town.

WHAT: The Leadership, Mirror the Monster, Avery Strange, Crayon Box Massacre

WHERE: Canopy Club ($7)

WHEN: Thursday, July 7th at 9:00 p.m.

The Leadership top a solid bill at the Canopy Club, along with experimental artist Avery Strange and un-googleable artists Mirror the Monster and Crayon Box Massacre.

WHAT: Withershins, Scurvine, Poundcake

WHERE: The Brass Rail ($TBA)

WHEN: Thursday, July 7th at 9:00 p.m.

It seems like the Brass Rail pops up with shows at the oddest of times, and with the oddest of bands. For instance, I can’t remember Scurvine playing a show for at least as long as the Brass Rail hasn’t been hosting them lately. Regardless, this should be an excellent night of heavier music, especially with stoner-grunge group Poundcake on the bill.

WHAT: Girlfriends, Duck. Little Brother, Duck!, Mammoths, The Diamond Stretch

WHERE: The HUB ($3)

WHEN: Saturday, July 9th at 8:00 p.m.

The weekend brings two touring acts from Portland to town that split the difference of the punk spectrum. Girlfriends play hyper-mathy noodle miniatures, while Duck. Little Brother, Duck! tend towards more extended, almost sludgy pieces. Mammoths and the Diamond Stretch support.
