Folk singing-songwriting duo Rainbow Flag will play their last show of 2016 at the Post on Tuesday and welcome in December with positivity and warmth.

WHAT: Cub-J and friends

WHERE: Canopy Club ($7 advance/$10 door)

WHEN: Tuesday, Dec. 6th at 8 p.m.

Soulful hip-hop artist Cub-J will perform his Pop-Off EP at Canopy, supported by five other rappers, producers, deejays, and R&B artists. It’ll make for an eclectic and interesting evening.

WHAT: Stand with Standing Rock Solidarity Concert

WHERE: Red Herring Restaurant (free/donations suggested)

WHEN: Wednesday, Dec. 7th at 6 p.m.

This anti-DAPL support show will feature musical acts interspersed with short presentations by community members that have visited the sight of conflict in North Dakota. The participating musicians will be Bones Jugs, Aaron Aplus Wilson and Da’Vision, Meadowhawk featuring Claire Johnson and Matt Turino, The Chickadee Sermon, and Vinny Santanelli. All proceeds from food and donations will go to benefit Standing Rock. This informed, cooperative show aims to educate attendees about this cause and bring people together to fight for it.

Psych duo JAGAJA are on tour from Nebraska and bringing heady vibes to MoM for this midweek show. Local dream-rock outfit Tigerbeat and Tried & True will help to cement the mood.

WHAT: Penny Horses with Joshua Powell & The Great Train Robbery, Nectar, and The Dry Look

WHERE: Cowboy Monkey ($7)

WHEN: Thursday, Dec. 8th at 9 p.m.

Joshua Powell and his band craft indie folk music with literary lyrics, which will fit nicely next to the dark-tinged Americana of C-U’s Penny Horses. Nectar rocks it as another band from the prolific Kamila Glowacki, and we’re all hearing good things about newcomers The Dry Look.

WHAT: End of Semester Show

WHERE: Fourth Street Records – 206 S. 4th St. in Champaign (cover unknown)

WHEN: Thursday, Dec. 8th at 7 p.m.

One of C-U’s newest DIY labels brings four acts together for this pre-holiday break show. It’ll be a singer-songwriter evening featuring Jack Kaup, Neal, Maddy Marsan, and Square Donuts, who are all equally as new and promising as the label.

Katie Flynn and her band are getting ready to put on another rip-roaring show for us this Friday. Flynn performs the best cabaret in the area, and her shows don’t skimp on the raunchiness. Prepare to be entertained and get ready to laugh.

WHAT: Dibiase with Ashes and Iron and Ashell

WHERE: Loose Cobra (cover)

WHEN: Friday, Dec. 9th at 8:30 p.m.

This show is summed up by the sentence-long description of it on the event page: “Bring your diaper.” It will be a relentless night of metal and hardcore music that won’t soon be forgotten. Cobra shows aren’t super common, so it’s best to catch one when you can.

Here’s a night of space, noise, and gazing at one’s shoes at Blips and Chitz, with different kinds of experimental music set to stun.

WHAT: Elsinore with Abnormous, Namorado, and Sunjacket

WHERE: The Accord ($10 in advance/$13 at the door)

WHEN: Saturday, Dec. 10th at 8 p.m.

Elsinore has had a pretty big year with the release of a couple singles and an appearance at Pygmalion over the summer. They’re expected to put out a new album before too long, as is Abnormous, and Namorado and Sunjacket both have 2016 releases under their belts, so this will be an indie and alternative rock show with a lot of fresh stuff to enjoy.

Two noisy bands coming through from Boston and Chicago will be complemented by local acts Winder (emo/fuzz pop) and King of the Coast (surfy indie).

WHAT: Conscious House Concert #7

WHERE: Ananda Liina Yoga Center – 2308 N. High Cross Rd in Urbana (free/donations suggested)

WHEN: Saturday, Dec. 10th at 8 p.m.

For each show, Conscious House Concerts picks a new charity to support. This month they are changing form and donating all of their proceeds to support the water protectors at Standing Rock. Two Legged Zoo, Holly Monet, and Nicholas Mathew Garcia will be the musicians in attendance for this Saturday’s session.

WHERE: Prairie Glass House, 4810 N. Lincoln Ave. in Champaign ($25)

WHEN: Saturday, Dec. 10th at 7 p.m.

A holiday-themed Lumen Events evening will showcase the talents of Rebecca Rego & The Trainmen, Bashful Youngens, and Kurt Bielema, all within the gorgeous setting of Prairie Glass House, nestled within the “Big Grove” forest. The ticket price also gets you locally-sourced appetizers and a drink, and more are available for purchase. Ease into the holidays with indie-folk music amid white-tipped treetops.

WHAT: Dopapod with Pigeons Playing Ping Pong

WHERE: The Accord ($12 advance/$15 door)

WHEN: Sunday, Dec. 11th at 8:30 p.m.

The Accord wants you to dance on Sunday with this show. Dopapod brings bouncy electronic rock and PPPP are funky, jammy and fun as hell. Round out the week and prepare for the next one with this weird and amusing set.
