Pretty awesome bill for early in the week with this group of four over at the Highdive. Hank was just recently on tour and is now finishing up their “Math Salts Tour” here at home. PA’s Legs Like Tree Trunks join as well as The Stars, They Beckon.

WHAT: Cowboy Indian Bear, Year of the Bobcat, Aron Stromberg

WHERE: Mike ‘N Molly’s ($5)

WHEN: Thursday, August 9th at 8:30 p.m.

Cowboy Indian Bear are playing a string of tour dates across the Midwest and are onto the East Coast after this show with a couple of locals on Thursday night. If you’re into janglely indie rock you’ll really enjoy CIB, they have some pretty catchy stuff up their sleeve. It might catch you by surprise if you’re not prepared for it.

WHAT: Sneaky Gene, Thinner Teed

WHERE: Canopy Club ($5)

WHEN: Thursday, August 9th at 9 p.m.

Kankakee’s jam band outfit Sneaky Gene invades Canopy Club with Thinner Teed, who also provide some pretty psychadelic folk jams to the mix. Cnaopy has had some pretty good bills in the last few weeks with jam bands, so this one should follow suit if you’re into that genre.

EDITOR’S PICK: SP SHOW SERIES’ MYSTERY SHOW
Mike ‘N Molly’s (free) — Friday, August 10th at 10 p.m.

For August’s installment of the SP Show Series, we’re keeping the details under wraps. What we will say is that it’s a free show with a mystery guest. It will definitely be a fun show to be at, but don’t get your hopes up for a famous appearance or anything (this isn’t REO or Hum we’re talking here). Just a solid night lined up from this band. Our lips have to stay sealed, but let’s face it, you’re probably going to be at Mike ‘N Molly’s at some point on Friday night, so why not stop in and see what the fuss is about.

WHAT: Isis Griffin, That’s No Moon, Truth aka Trouble 

WHERE: Canopy Club ($5)

WHEN: Friday, August 10th at 10:30 p.m.

Chicago’s Issis Griffin comibines a pretty interesting mix of psych-acoustic tones with characteristics of a ssinger-songwriter, but also has tracks that are more hip-hop inlcuenced like “Get Around Me.” pretty cool stuff. Local hip-hop artist Dontiel “The Truth aka Trouble” Allison and indie rockers That’s No Moon round this one out.

WHAT: Electric Bitters, The Acme Principle, The Curses

WHERE: Mike ‘N Molly’s ($5)

WHEN: Saturday, August 11th at 9 p.m.

This benefit show features three pretty great bands, and the music is going to support a good cause. Three local bands with a five dollar suggested donation with all proceeds going to the Daily Bread Soup Kitchen. Electric Bitters have a new record coming out at the end of the month, so surely they will be previewing some new tracks that are going to be on that album.

WHAT: Broken Day, Missing the Point 

WHERE: The Highdive ($7)

WHEN: Saturday, August 11th at 8 p.m.

Broken Day is releasing their new record, Snatching Defeat from the Jaws of Victory, on Saturday and are joined by Missing the Point. It’s been three years since Broken Day has played a show, and six since they began recording this album, so this one has been a long time coming. Head over to their website to hear some clips from the new record.
