The Overture: August 5-11

WHAT: We Must Dismantle All This!, This Is The Enemy, Smoke Coke, Ode Vinter, Who Needs You

WHERE: Error Records ($5)

WHEN: Monday, August 5th at 7 p.m.

Local heavy metal outfit We Must Dismantle All This! is putting out a brand new record this week, and they’re having a release show to celebrate. Error Records will play host, and a handful of heavy bands join in on the fun. The release is called Decathect, and it comes at an interesting time for WMDAT!, as they’re not going to be performing for “a long time” as one of their members is moving away from C-U. My guess is they’ll go out with a bang.

The Champaign-Urbana Singer-Songwriter Collective series continues this week with a couple of familiar faces to the series. Braden Anderson and Justin Rondon gear up for their performances this week. The series has typically been free, but certainly $5 isn’t going to deter you from seeing this one if your set on doing so.

Many of these artists are familiar to the CUSSC (above), and are making their rounds to this one as well.

WHERE: The Iron Post

WHEN: Friday, August 9th at 5 p.m.

Duke of Uke and HIs Novelty Orchestra are performing, once again, at the Iron Post. A familiar spot for this crew, as they performed last week over at the Iron Post as well. This show is a going away party of sorts for musician Claire Cannon, who performs in some acts around C-U. Plenty of great acts for a send off performance.

WHERE: The Velvet Elvis (donation)

WHEN: Friday, August 9th at 6 p.m.

Champaign-Urbana is full of budding business and organizations, and the Velvet Elvis is throwing a party to help a few of these up-and-comers. We’ve featured each of these businesses on the site, Flying Machine Coffee, Plant Mode, and the Butcher. A handful of musicians are gearing up to try to help them along their respective ways, including Larry Gates, aka DJ Legtwo (you might also know him from Curb Service), Mike Ingram and Kayla Brown as, well, Mike & Kayla, DJ Belly, Cole Rabenort of Anna Karenina/Anna Karina and the Fights, as well as Isaac Arms (of Withershins) doing a DJ set. Good stuff for a good cause.

EDITOR’S PICK: SO MANY DYNAMOS, CLOUD GAVIN, YEAR OF THE BOBCAT
Mike ‘N Molly’s ($7) — Saturday, August 10th at 8 p.m.

So Many Dynamos venture back to Champaign-Urbana for what should be a stellar show at Mike ‘N Molly’s on Saturday night. They just wrapped up their first full-on tour in four years back in June, and they’re back at it here in August. We’ll have an interview with the band to run later this week to prepare for this show, but it’s a good one all around. Locals Cloud Gavin and Year of the Bobcat join as support, and you can read up on YOTB as Chris interviewed them not too long ago.
