Mixture of sounds going down over at Error Records tonight to kick off a week of music in C-U. Coma Regalia has put together a couple of splits with local artists, and they’re stopping through on their tour. They’re joined by Texas crew For Want Of, Michigan math-punk outfit Odd Dates, and local post-punk/hardcore crew Enta.

Champaign-Urbana’s Singer-Songwriter Collective series continues this week with a duo of ladies taking the stage on Tuesday night. By the looks of things, Otnes has been working in the studio, for what I would imagine would be some new material for a full-length album. WHAT: Champaign-Urbana Singer-Songwriter Festival

WHEN: Thursday, August 15th at 6 p.m. through Saturday, August 17th

A ton of local singer-songwriters have been collected to form this Champaign-Urbana Singer-Songwriter Festival going down this weekend over at the Urbana Landmark Hotel. They’ll be hosting an event with artists performing their own material, as well as another portion that is being dubbed Dylan Redux, a Bob Dylan Tribute. WHAT: Orange Soda, Cal and the Calories, Cabeza Twins, Wolf Luv

A solid four band bill lined up over at Error later in the week, headlined by Orange Soda. They put together a pretty great EP last year that kind of went under the radar, but is definitely worth the listen. It’s over at their Bandcamp page. A few garage punk bands to join in and you have yourself a night of fun, and a night of soda.

Thursday night at Mike ‘N Molly’s is a night dedicated to benefitting CatSnap, also known as Champaign Area Trap Spay / Neuter and Adoption Program, for a kitten named Maverick who has incurred $2,000 worth of vet bills. A handful of acts lined up to do their best to help raise money for this little fella, so go out and show your support.

WHAT: Jackie Chain, Klevah and BeeKay

Jackie Chain hails from Alabama, and is set to bring his style of hip-hop through C-U at the Highdive later this week. He’s had his hit songs here and there, and has been remixed plenty of times by some fairly big names like Kid Cudi and Big Sean, he’s dropped a mixtape as recent as last year, called Bruce Lean Chronicles 1 & 2. Joining Chain is some local hip-hop Klevah and BeeKay. We took a look at Klevah’s most recent mixtape back in June’s edition of B-Sides.

WHAT: An Evening With Your Mother, Jack Anthony and the Desperadoes, Renegade Lightning Rebellion, Morgan Orion

An Evening With Your Mother and Jack Anthony & the Desperadoes have teamed up for a split release called Uncertain Harvest, which you can clearly see is the album art posted here. If you haven’t had a chance to listen to it, do yourself a favor and stream it over at their Bandcamp page prior to seeing them on Thursday night. Upshot, James Jones Trio and Coco Butter Kids are taking the stage on Friday night at Mike ‘N Molly’s in the always-awesome beergarden. In case you missed them at Friday Night Live last week, Upshot is set to perform again on this coming Friday night.

Local pop-rock outfit the 92s are set to take the stage on Friday night. They’ve been hard at work putting together a new album, which is nearing its final stages, it appears. In addition, The Frankl Project is will be releasing a new record, Standards.  Joining in on the bill is Keith Campell of Oceans, and Brian Johannesen.

EDITOR’S PICK: BARONESS, ROYAL THUNDER

Savanna, Georgia’s sludge metal kings Baroness haven’t exactly had a worry-free last twelve months or so. Their tour bus crash was a tragic situation, injuring several people and nearly dismantling the band, but as they’ve recovered, they’re back in full swing after that incident, and performing at full-strength. Last year, the band did  have some incredible highs, including the release of thie stellar double-album juggarnaut Yellow & Green, and they’re bringing that tour through to the Highdive this weekend. WHAT: Thorr-Axe, Witchweed, Ode vinter, Airacobra, Hermit Hill

WHERE: Error Records ($5)

WHEN: Saturday, August 17th at 7:30 p.m.

Five band bill headlined by Thorr-Axe is being dubbed KVLTDEATHORGY BANG! BANG!, and takes place on Saturday night. Tons of shades of rock throughout the night, as well as belly dancers. Yes, belly dancers at a punk rock show. Awesome.

WHAT: Curb Service, Thoughts Detecting Machines, Swords

WHERE: Mike ‘N Molly’s ($7)

WHEN: Saturday, August 17th at 9 p.m.

Curb Service is releasing a new record for the first time in a handful of years. He’s calling it Romeo Jive, and you can actually stream it in full over at CS’s Soundcloud page for free. Not only that, but Thoughts Detecting Machines is the project from Rick Valentin, who you might recognize from the Poster Children. Pretty stellar stuff. To top it all off, Swords is set to open. This ia a great one on Saturday night, indeed.

Sunday night show at Error Records aren’t unusual. In fact, there’s one happening again this week, lead by a few Milwaukee punk/hardcore bands Scowler and Gauss.
