The Overture: January 10 – 16

WHAT:  Psychic Twin, Common Loon, Pat Hull

WHERE:  Mike ‘N Mollys ($5)

WHEN:  Friday, January 13th at 10:00 p.m.

Psychic Twin’s blissful pop-synths will make an appearance on Friday the 13th with CU vets Common Loon.  We’re hoping that Common Loon gives us a taste of new material they have been working on for their follow up to The Long Dream of Birds from a few years back (wow, it’s 2012 already). In addition, Pat Hull joins the bill all the way from Brooklyn.  One thing is certain — there won’t be a shortage of pop gems at this show.

WHAT:  Lives on Trial, The Airship, The Third Temple, Seven Year Existance

WHERE:  Canopy Club ($7)

WHEN:  Friday, January 13 at 9:00pm

Metal heads unite. Friday the 13th Metal Massacre comes to Canopy, and nothing should be as bonechilling as metal on Friday the 13th.

Lord T. and Eloise
WHAT:
  Lord T. and Eloise

WHERE:  Canopy Club ($8 advance, $10 at the door)

WHEN:  Saturday, January 14th at 10:30 p.m

Memphis recording artists Lord T. and Eloise claim they came to this planet and this time to save rap music.  Touring to support their third full length recording, RAPOCALYPSE, the rap duo will make a visit to C-U to show their fans what the future holds.

WHAT: The Great Cover Up

WHERE: The Highdive ($7)

WHEN: Saturday, January 14th at 9:00 p.m. & Sunday, January 15th at 9:00 p.m.

This is the mother of all cover shows all year in CU.  In what promises to be another worthwhile event, The Great Cover Up expands to four days this year, two of which take place this weekend (two shows next Tuesday and Thursday).  Saturday’s bill includes Brother Embassy, Amy Mitchell, Delta Kinds, Lonely Trailer, Double Standard Pratice, Trailer Park Moses, and Carinavale Debauche.  Sunday includes Mike Ingram, Temple of Low Men, Scathe, Kayla Brown & Amiel, The Palace Flophouse, Missing the Point and Vanattica.

The Champaign County Health Care Consumers will get their annual dose of tribute during the first two days of the 21st annual Great Cover Up.  Lots of CU bands doing their best impressions of bands to help out the CCHCC group.
